Uniwire Now Supports LNURL on Bitcoin Lightning

Uniwire now offers full LNURL support for deposits and payouts — marking a solid step forward in our Bitcoin Lightning integration.

Why this matters

If you’ve used Lightning payments before, you’ll know that generating invoices, sharing them, and managing expirations can add friction.

LNURL dramatically simplifies this process by enabling payment flows through simple links or QR codes, with seamless coordination between wallet and service.

By adding full LNURL support, we’re making our Lightning infrastructure more flexible, user-friendly, and ready for more advanced use cases.

Send and Receive with LNURL

Here’s a breakdown of the two sides of LNURL support now available on Uniwire:

  • LNURL Pay (Incoming payments): You can now receive Lightning payments via LNURL links or QR codes. Instead of generating a one-time invoice each time, you can provide a reusable LNURL endpoint that your wallet — or your customers’ wallets — can use to retrieve fresh payment instructions automatically.
  • LNURL Withdraw (Outgoing payments): On the flip side, you can now initiate Lightning payouts using LNURL as the recipient. This streamlines workflows such as sending Lightning funds out from your account or service, making them simpler and more standardized.

Benefits for You and Your Users

  • Reduced friction: One link or QR code instead of creating new invoices each time.
  • Better user experience: For example, a merchant can display a static QR code for Lightning payments, and the buyer’s wallet uses LNURL-Pay to fetch a new invoice behind the scenes.
  • More flexible payouts: If you’re offering refunds, rewards, or payouts, LNURL-Withdraw makes the process smoother.
  • Future-ready: LNURL already supports additional flows — such as reusable addresses and authentication — and by supporting both In & Out, we’re ready for what’s next.

Things to know

  • The depositor’s Lightning wallet must support LNURL to use these new flows. Not all wallets offer full LNURL compatibility yet.
  • While LNURL simplifies the experience, it still operates on the Lightning Network — so the usual considerations around channels, liquidity, and routing still apply.
